How Long Is An Ordinary Playthrough?
My first playthrough took me 5.9 hours to complete, without any walkthroughs or other hints on how to progress. This included a number of deaths, and departing for optional lore-gathering activity, like speaking to NPCs, exploring crew cabins, and listening to most of the optional phone calls. With this in mind, a casual playthrough of Still Wakes The Deep takes around 6 hours to see all the game has to offer.
Achievement hunters may need to go through multiple playthroughs to unlock all the achievements, as the game is very linear and it’s quite easy to miss the opportunities for some of the achievements, such as the optional phone calls. For this reason it could take 12, 18 or more hours to get every single achievement.
Story Mode vs Standard Mode
If you’re looking for a faster playthrough and simply want to see where the narrative goes, then you can select Story Mode at the start of a playthrough. Story Mode makes the stealth sections easier in a way similar to SOMA’s Safe Mode, though you can still die in-game if you make wrong choices. It’s just a lower-pressure way to play the game, which might make things easier.. or help you if the horror is getting to you.
