Dead Island 2 is available on Xbox Game Pass right now – WGB

With absolutely no fanfare and zero build-up, Dead Island 2 is now available on Game Pass for console but not on PC.

The game suddenly appeared on the service, despite Microsoft announcing the new games hitting the service just two days ago.

Dead Island 2 was first announced waaaay back in 2014 and went through a series of delays and even a change of developer. Yet to everyone’s surprise, it emerged as a surprisingly strong game, achieving a respectable Open Critic score of 75 based on 1253 reviews.

The sales numbers were equally solid, shifting 1 million copies in the first three days of sale, and 2 million in the first month. According to publisher Deep Silver, this made Dead Island 2 its ” “biggest launch in history in both units and revenue.”

Part of the reason it hasn’t hit PC Game Pass may have to do with its PC exclusivity. Currently, it can only be bought on the Epic Game Store, though that exclusivity will run out on April 22nd when it arrives on Steam. This is just speculation, but I’d imagine part of the Epic deal is that the game can’t appear on any other PC storefront or subscription service until said deal expires. Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it arrive on PC Game Pass sometime after it launches on Steam.
